Nail Polish - Everything You Need To Know

How to Take Care Of Your Nail Polish

I have been doing my own manicures since I was a little girl.

I am a huge collector of nail polishes, nail pens, lotions, nail stickers, rhinestones, files, buffers etc.  I have had over 100 nail polishes at once.

I love high quality polish.  Not only does it stay on longer than cheap polish but the color is more saturated, it goes on easier & it doesn't stain your nails IF you put on a base coat.

Don't get me wrong...  When I see a sale on polish, I will buy it.  I love buying discontinued colors too.

Random & Quick Tips

I have always kept my nail polish in the fridge.  It makes the polish last longer and not clump.

I roll the polish in between my hands before I use it.  I shake the bottles as well if there isn't much left it in or the colors are separating.

In between color changes I let my nails breathe as your nails need oxygen.  I apply cuticle oil, put lotion on my hands, stay away from water as my nails get weaker & I put on at least a base coat or hardener.

I also always put on a base coat & a top coat.  I know it's a pain in the butt because it takes so long to dry in between coats but it's worth it.

It not only makes your nails stronger but your nails won't chip as fast, your nails won't stain and the color and overall polish goes on better.

Have you ever thought why are my nails turning yellow?  How Can I fix this?

ANSWERS

  • Color reaction is usually the reason your nails turn yellow. Darker-colored polishes stain nails due to a chemical reaction between the polish & the nails.

  • A chemical known as formaldehyde in the polish could be causing the problem. Formaldehyde reacts and makes your nails yellow.

  • It could be a sign of a nail infection.  This is unlikely and unless their are other symptoms of a nail infection or bad health.

QUICK FIXES

  • Try out the nail whitener from Witchcraft.  It works for toes as well.

  • Using whitening toothpaste on your nails and use a stiff nail brush to scrub them.

  • Soak your hands in lemon water for about 15 minutes or until you see results.
